Second Summer
With a last-minute trip to Turkey around the corner, I've revisited my Pinterest boards to get me in the holiday mood - not that I need a lot of help...

This is me: Eve Kalinik, Nutritional Therapist
Joie talks to Nutritional Therapist, Eve Kalinik about living a joyful life!
What do you do for
a living and how did you get into this field of work?
I’m
a Nutritional Therapist which means I use foods and natural supplements to help
the body’s natural healing abilities. My clients come to me with a whole
different range of ambitions and concerns and its about finding the root cause
and looking to support this to improve their health and wellbeing.
What does a typical
day look like for you?
First
thing is hot water with lemon juice. Then about an hour of yoga. Breakfast is
my favourite meal of the day, starting with good intentions is always the best
way to begin the day. This can be anything from avocado on gluten free toast
through to sprouted porridges and nut creams. The day can vary depending on
whether I’m seeing clients at my clinic in Chelsea or having meetings with
brands that I consult with. But I always drink plenty of water and green tea to
keep my hydration and concentration levels up!

What do you do in
the way of exercise, and why? What do you enjoy about it?
I
train three times per week with a combination of weights and high intensity
which is great for general strength and helping to support healthy bones. I
practise yoga every day. Sometimes this is just breath work other times it can
be much longer depending on how much I need to release. I find it very
cathartic and it's definitely an integral part of my day to day routine.
Do you have any
mottos/ affirmations that you live by?
Never
have regrets, follow your dreams and trust in the process.
What does happiness
look like to you?
Freedom.
The feeling that everything and anything is open to you if you want it.
How would you spend
the perfect Sunday?
Starting
the day with a delicious breakfast and the newspapers. Checking out an
exhibition and a if its a sunny day a nice long walk in hyde park. Supper with
close friends and family and lots and lots of laughter.
What are your top
tips for incorporating healthy habits into a hectic London lifestyle?
Making
one small positive change at a time. Thats what leads to the biggest and most
longstanding changes. So making simple switches like swapping coffee for green
tea. Having a daily green juice so that you know you are getting your quota of
veggies per day. Preparation is also key, its always when we are stuck for
choices that we often make bad decisions. Healthy food can be fast food,
throwing an avocado and some raw crackers into your bag or making double
portions of dinner the night before are easy and quick things to do.
What is your
favourite recipe at the moment?
I
really love making my raw beetroot dip to have with the delicious carrot &
flax crackers from the new Hemsley Hemsley book. Tons of fab recipes to choose
from in fact! I’m a huge believer in eating seasonally and as locally as
possible and since watercress has been so abundant the past month I’ve been
using it to create delicious pesto, dips and flavourings. Its also a serious
nutritional powerhouse too.

How has focusing on
wellness/ nutrition enhanced your everyday life?
I
have massively increased my appreciation of food and how what we eat affects
the way our bodies function so dramatically. Eating well is singly one of the
best ways to help improve health and wellbeing almost instantaneously.
